SOMERVILLE RECREATION ANNOUNCES PUBLIC SKATING HOURS AT TWO RINKS FOR WINTER 2012-13
Second Rink Opened in Early September; Year-Round Skating Programs to Expand in 2013

SOMERVILLE – The Somerville Recreation Department announces the winter 2012-13 public ice skating schedule, which includes increased hours for public skating at two rinks. Located at 570 Somerville Avenue, the Veteran’s Memorial Hockey Rink and a second, newly-opened and yet-to-be-named rink include free public skating Monday through Sunday beginning this month. The City of Somerville assumed maintenance and daily operations of the Veteran’s Rink through a Memorandum of Understanding with the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) in 2010. The new rink, which the City broke ground for in 2011, will formally open with a Grand Opening Ceremony in 2013. Public skating hours for the winter 2012-13 season are as follows:
Main Rink:

- Mondays, Fridays, noon – 2:00pm: Free Public Skating
- Wednesdays, noon – 2:00pm and 3:45 – 5:00pm: Free Public Skating
- Saturdays: public skating hours will be posted at www.somervillerec.com on a weekly basis
Rink 2:
- Mondays, 4:30-5:20pm: Somerville Skating Academy ($110 per child for 7 weeks)
- Tuesdays & Thursdays, 3:45-5:15pm: Free Public Skating
- Saturdays: skating hours will be posted at www.somervillerec.com on a weekly basis
- Sundays, 2:00 – 4:00pm: Free Public Skating
