ESPN Says Somerville Student Is State's Top Soccer Player

Thayrone Miranda will receive ESPNBoston.com's "Mr. Soccer" award.

ESPNBoston.com will give Somerville High School senior Thayrone Miranda the "Mr. Soccer" award, given annually to the top high school soccer player in the state, according to the sports website.

Miranda helped lead the Somerville Highlanders to the state championship game, where they fell to West Springfield in November, and he scored 20 goals and racked up 12 assists on the season, ESPNBoston said.

In his high school career, he scored 78 goals, and he was named an All-American player, it says.

Miranda made headlines earlier in the season for an amazing bicycle-kick goal against Brookline in the Division 1 playoffs (see video above).
