Dilboy Stadium Lands Elite Women's Soccer Team

The Boston Breakers are one of the top women's soccer teams in the country, and they will now join the Boston Militia——in making their home field, according to an announcement from the team.

The Breakers are a member of the Women's Professional Soccer league, the top women's league in the nation, but because that league suspended play for the 2012 season due to a legal dispute, the Breakers will play in the Women's Premier Soccer League this year.

"We are very excited to be playing at Dilboy Stadium," said Lee Billiard, associate general manager of the Breakers in a statement. "We spent some time looking at facilities that would be at the high standards we require, but also a stadium which will cater to our fans and provide a great game day atmosphere."

The Breakers formerly played at Harvard Stadium in Allston.

According to the announcement, the Breakers will be involved in the Somerville community, participating in "soccer appreciation, training and education programming" in the city.

"We are extremely proud and excited that the Boston Breakers have chosen to make Dilboy Stadium in Somerville their new home," said Somerville Mayor Joseph Curtatone in a statement.

In November, the city of Somerville renewed an agreement with the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation to assume operations at Dilboy.

With two top-flight women's teams calling it home, Dilboy has become a center of professional women's sports in the country.
