Boston Breakers Leave Somerville

The professional women's soccer team will call Harvard Stadium home for the 2014 season.

After spending two seasons at Somerville's Dilboy Stadium, the Boston Breakers are leaving the city and heading to Harvard Stadium, according to an announcement from the team.

The Boston Breakers are a topflight professional women's soccer team that plays in the National Women's Soccer League.

During the 2012 and 2013 seasons the team played home games here in Somerville.

In a statement issued by the team, Lee Billiard, general manager of the Breakers, said, "After selling out nine of our 11 games in 2013, we decided a bigger stadium was a must for 2014."

The Breakers have a history of playing at Harvard Stadium, which was their home field during the 2009, 2010 and 2011 seasons, when they played in the now defunct Women's Professional Soccer league.
