Somerville Commemorates 9/11

Somerville paid homage to the events of September 11 yesterday.

The twelfth annual vigil consisted of a procession down Community path, beginning at Cedar Street and ending at Davis Square.

There, Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone spoke in honor of those who suffered the losses of September 11.

"We do not forget our response that day," Mayor Curtatone said. "Our unity. Our resolve. Our reaffirmation of the values that we hold dear: of equality, tolerance, and freedom."

The September 11 memorial in Davis Square marks the spot where Somerville residents gathered spontaneously in 2001. The monument reads Community, Hope, Service, and Courage.
