Somerville Schools Get Farm to School Grant

Somerville is one of 71 communities across the country to receive the grant.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has given Somerville Public Schools a $45,000 Farm to School grant, according to an announcement from the school system.

The grant, intended to connect school cafeterias with local farms, will be used to develop long-term plans for sourcing local foods in Somerville schools, and it will also be used for educating students about food and nutrition, gardening programs and other related programs, the announcement says.

Somerville is one of 71 communities around the country to receive a Farm to School grant.
