Six Years After Fire, Somerville School Reopens Tuesday

The public is invited to a grand opening for the new East Somerville Community School.

The new East Somerville Community School, which was demolished after a 2007 fire and completely rebuilt, will reopen on Tuesday, and the public is invited to celebrate the grand opening.

The new K-8 school cost about $39.1 million to build, and it will reunite students, teachers and families who are part of the school community. Since the 2007 fire, students have been attending school at temporary locations throughout Somerville.

The new East Somerville Community School will be home to about 550 students, and it has a full-sized gym, media center and garden classroom, among other things.

It's located at Pearl and Cross streets, and Tuesday's grand opening is from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on the Cross Street side of the school.
