Wednesday: Meeting About 'Union Square Gateway's' Future

MIT graduate students are working on a community plan for a part of Somerville dubbed "Union Square Gateway."

Graduate students from MIT's Department of Urban Studies and Planning, in partnership with the city of Somerville, are studying an area known as the "Union Square Gateway" in an effort to create a community plan for the area, taking into consideration the arrival of the Green Line Extension.

That's according a post on Union Square Main Streets' website.

Union Square Gateway includes the area around Target, Twin City Plaza, Pat's Towing and Boynton Yards.

The graduate student team has been learning about the area over the past month and a half, and they're presenting their initial findings at a meeting on Wednesday.

They'll discuss ideas for housing, business opportunities and transit-oriented development, and they want ideas and feedback from the public, the post says.

Previously, MIT urban planning students created a community plan for Winter Hill and Union Square.

Wednesday's meeting is at 6:30 p.m. at the Argenziano School.
