Three-Day Planning Bonanza in East Somerville

Somerville by Design comes to East Somerville.

The public is invited to a three-day public charrette—an intensive planning and design session—in an effort to form a vision for the future for East Somerville.

The charrette, which begins Monday, is part of the Somerville by Design initiative, and it will be similar to a three-day session that took place in Davis Square earlier in September.

Residents, business owners and other "stakeholders" will have the opportunity to visit a temporary design studio at 122-124 Broadway to offer thoughts and opinions about East Somerville.

There will also be a series of discussions about specific topics, such as the economy of East Somerville, development along Washington Street, housing, open space, parking and other things. The three-day charrette will culminate in a pin-up presentation, which will feature some conclusions drawn from the event.

Outside the design studio there will be a "parklet" with cafe tables, plants and moveable seating, according to an announcement from the city.
