Somerville's OpenData Portal Launches, Webinar on Sept. 20

The city will host a webinar on Sept. 20 to talk about the new Socrata OpenData portal.

Somerville has launched its Socrata-powered OpenData portal, according to an announcement from the city.

The portal is designed to provide residents with data about the city's 311 system, city budget, the departments of Public Works, Traffic and Parking, and Inspectional Services, the 2011 Wellbeing Survey and the most recent ACE (Accurate, Courteous, Easy) Service Scorecard, according to the announcement.

It's the first Socrata-based open-data portal in New England, the announcement says. Other cities, like Chicago, Seattle, San Francisco and New York use the system.

You can visit the portal at https://data.somervillema.gov/.

Somerville has also scheduled a webinar for Sept. 20, at 11 a.m., to talk about the portal. You can sign up for the webinar here.

Found it: data.somervillema.gov Here's a map I made of all of the requests to fix potholes in bike lanes. Paints a good picture of where the work needs to happen! https://data.somervillema.gov/dataset/Bike-Potholes/dqe2-eu72

Hi Jonah. Yes, a URL would have been nice. Sorry about that. Also, the site is now working. Yesterday it didn't seem to be up and running. Making corrections above.

Here's a map of rodent sightings: https://data.somervillema.gov/dataset/Rodent-Information/tp6j-gpfj Pretty cool (not the rodents, but the map)

I spy rodents outside of my bedroom window at my neighbors trash. Wanna log it for me? lol

I like it so far, although, there is nothing for Traffic and Parking and it's very Wellbeing survey heavy. I look forward to seeing it when there is more data added.

Just wanted to let people know one of the most useful parts of Socrata is the 311 Explorer. It allows you to dig down deeper into the calls for service in your area and it is very informative (and easy to navigate). Here is the link: https://data.somervillema.gov/apps/311-explorer
