Somerville Playground Project Gets $400K State Grant

Work on renovating a West Somerville Park should begin this summer.

The North Street Veterans Playground, which is undergoing a renovation, received a $400,000 grant from the state to renovate the playground, according to an announcement from Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs.

The Parkland Acquisitions and Renovations for Communities, PARC, grant will help pay for the installation of new play features, seating, a water play activity feature, a performance space, a new section of chain link fence, gates and street lights, the announcement says.

The North Steeet Playground isn't the first in Somerville to receive a PARC grant. The new Chuckie Harris Park in East Somerville from the program for major renovations.
