Somerville Mayor Joseph Curtatone recently made the Village Voice’s “America’s Worst Politicians” list as a “blowhard.”

Dig Boston’s Chris Faraone, who wrote the section on Curtatone for the Village Voice, wrote Curtatone’s “glowing public profile” isn’t deserved.

“In reality, the seemingly delightful Democrat and famously cool neighbor of Boston operates a municipality rife with old-school shenanigans; turn over a rock and discover an elite and privileged cadre of attorneys and real estate slugs who get virtually any permissions they wish for.”

Faraone also criticized Curtatone’s more than $300,000 budget for media relations and communications, while at the same time “skyrocketing property taxes that have forced natives to flee.”

Read Faraone’s full critique of Curtatone.

Fifty alternative press writers and editors compiled the list of 53 of “the nation’s worst elected leaders.”

Massachusetts House Speaker Robert DeLeo was the only other Bay State politician on the list. He made the “sleazeball” section.

Do you think Curtatone deserves to be on the list?

SomervilleGirl, who has no name to share here, you might take a moment to think about what others write before you spout off. I did not condone or defend the Mayor or the administration. All I am saying is that irresponsible name calling, innuendo and unsubstantiated accusations are not journalism and should be criticized, not reprinted. To answer your snide question, no I am not a city employee. I am a business person and a former editor of my college and later an industry publication. I am disappointed that the Patch would headline and reproduce irresponsible slurs. I lease commercial property in Somerville and have for over 35 years. While I have doubled my square footage under lease during that time, my base rent is ten times what it was in 1977, and my tax share has risen commensurably. But I am not complaining. My business is thriving. Again, I have no substantiated knowledge of wrongdoing, and until I do, I reserve judgement. Grow up.

now that I see that the patch isn't afraid to print the truth,I will make sure I don't miss an issue, that said .curtatone doesn't care about anybody in somerville but himself.he thinks he is moving up in politics. ( not unless the democrats pass a bill letting illegals vote ) when they do a photo opt at the statehouse, you see him sucking up. right now I'M watching the mayor of lynn saying they cannot afford the illegals and the governor lying that they are not here. PLEASE PEOPLE VOTE DEMOCRATS OUT IN NOV. take back our country
