Smoking Ban Taking Effect For Cape Cod Seashore Beaches
Smokers will be banned from lighting up at guarded National Park Service beaches.
Headed to Cape Cod for some sun and, perhaps, a little R&R this summer? Well, if you’re a smoker you’ll want to forget about that pack of cigarettes.
A clean air ordinance takes effect June 19 for all six guarded National Park Service beaches of the Cape Cod Seashore. This means smoking and its by-product secondhand smoke will be banned at Coast Guard and Nauset Light beaches in Eastham, Marconi Beach in Wellfleet, Head of the Meadow Beach in Truro, and Race Point and Herring Cove beaches at the cape’s end in Provincetown.
Secondhand smoke has been the biggest complaint by beachgoers, which led to the call for the ban, Cape Cod Day reports.

Any smokers headed to one of these beaches and in need of a cig break will have to do that beyond the guarded areas of all named beachfronts.
Superintendent of Cape Cod National Seashore George Price was unavailable for comment Tuesday.
