Davis Square, Lower Broadway Libraries to Open Saturdays

Starting November 10, the neighborhood libraries will open on Saturdays for the first time since the 1970s, according the city.

The West Branch and East Branch libraries, in Davis Square and Lower Broadway, respectively, will soon be open on Saturdays, according to an announcement from the city.

According to the announcement, the neighborhood branch libraries will begin Saturday hours—for the first time since the 1970s—starting on Nov. 10. They will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The announcement says Saturday hours were made possible after the city signed a memorandum of understanding with the Somerville Municipal Employees Association. In addition to Saturday hours, the memorandum of understanding calls for the hiring of a new full-time librarian for youth services, the announcement says.
