Curtatone Bashes Romney and Ryan on Medicare in Front of Somerville Seniors [VIDEO]

Somerville Mayor Joseph Curtatone has joined other Democrats in attacking Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan on Medicare.

Here in Somerville—the —the mayor jumped into the fray Wednesday morning.

Speaking at the , a community home for elderly residents, accompanied by Massachusetts Democratic Chair John Walsh, Curtatone bashed Romney and Ryan on Medicare.

"The Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan budget plan guts Medicare as we know it," he said.

"It divides people by class," he said. "It's going to reward the rich at the expense of working class people like yourselves."

Curtatone continued, "That's not how I was brought up. I come from a working class family of Italian immigrants who worked hard. We took care of each other, we take care of our own."

"The Romney-Ryan plan leaves you behind," he said.

Since Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, former governor of Massachusetts, chose Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan as his running mate Saturday, the issue of Medicare has been brought to the forefront of the campaign, with the votes of elderly citizens in important swing states, like Florida, at stake.

Ryan has called for over $700 billion in cuts to Medicare through a voucher program where seniors would buy coverage on the private market, according to the LA Times. President Obama has also called for cuts to Medicare, and his plan, ensconced in the Affordable Care Act, would achieve cuts by reducing reimbursements to health care providers, according to Talking Points Memo.

On Wednesday, Romney distanced himself from Ryan's plan.
