The long-vacant job of MBTA general manager has finally been filled. Transportation officials chose Beverly Scott, CEO of the Atlanta transit system.
Scott will be the first African-American woman to lead the MBTA, according to the Boston Globe. Her salary will be $220,000, according to an announcement from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation.
In addition to running the Metropolitan Atlanta Transit Authority, Scott has previously been a top transit official in Sacramento, Calif. and Providence, R.I.
Scott faces many challenges at her new post, including finding long-term solutions to the MBTA's budget problems.
