Tuesday's Magoun Square Fire Still Under Investigation

Twelve people were displaced in the afternoon fire.

As of Wednesday morning, the cause of Tuesday afternoon's house fire in Magoun Square was still under investigation, according to Somerville Fire Chief Kevin Kelleher.

"Right now it's listed as undetermined," he said.

The American Red Cross of Eastern Massachusetts responded to the fire and assisted 12 people, eight adults and four children, with finding a place to stay, according to an email from the aid organization. The Red Cross also gave the displaced residents funds for food and comfort kits, which include toiletries, the email said.

The fire broke out at 486 Medford St., a five-unit apartment building, at about 3:11 p.m.
