Suspect in November's Lower Broadway Shooting Indicted

Santano Dessin, 33, has been indicted in connection to a Nov. 11 shooting on Lower Broadway, according to an announcement from the Middlesex District Attorney's office.

A Somerville man has been indicted on a charge of armed assault to murder in connection with a November 11 shooting that left a victim with life-threatening injuries, Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone informed the public today.

Santano Dessin, 33, of Somerville, was indicted by a Middlesex Grand Jury on charges of armed assault to murder, mayhem, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, assault and battery, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition.

The defendant is scheduled to be arraigned on January 7, 2013 in Middlesex Superior Court.

According to authorities, at approximately 11:30 p.m. on November 11, Somerville police responded to 196 Broadway for a report of a shooting.  Upon their arrival, officers found a 28-year-old male victim, evidencing a gunshot wound to the neck.  He was transported to Mass General Hospital with life-threatening injuries where he currently remains in serious condition, with a bullet lodged in his neck.

Somerville Police and State Police assigned to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office launched an immediate investigation into the circumstances of the shooting.  It is alleged that the defendant shot the victim following a verbal argument.

These charges are allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

The prosecutor assigned to the case is Assistant District Attorney Chris Tarrant.  The Victim Witness Advocates are Susie Marshall and Nadia Guevara.
