A Somerville man has been indicted on a charge of armed assault to murder in connection with a November 11 shooting that left a victim with life-threatening injuries, Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone informed the public today.

Santano Dessin, 33, of Somerville, was indicted by a Middlesex Grand Jury on charges of armed assault to murder, mayhem, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, assault and battery, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition.

The defendant is scheduled to be arraigned on January 7, 2013 in Middlesex Superior Court.

According to authorities, at approximately 11:30 p.m. on November 11, Somerville police responded to 196 Broadway for a report of a shooting.  Upon their arrival, officers found a 28-year-old male victim, evidencing a gunshot wound to the neck.  He was transported to Mass General Hospital with life-threatening injuries where he currently remains in serious condition, with a bullet lodged in his neck.
