Somerville Woman Drowns in East Boston
The woman and her husband had been living on their boat for the summer, and she fell into the water after the two went out for the night, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney.
A 53-year-old Somerville fell into Boston Harbor in East Boston Tuesday morning and drowned, according to an announcement from the Suffolk County District Attorney's office.
The announcement says the woman, who was not named, fell into the water off Piers Park early Tuesday morning after going out for the night with her husband.
The two had been living on their boat for the summer, it says.
BostonHerald.com reported Boston police were dispatched to the drowning, at the Boston Harbor Shipyard & Marina at 256 Marginal St., at 4:43 a.m.
According to the DA's announcement, the husband went into the water to rescue his wife, performed CPR unsuccessfully and called 911. There were no signs of physical trauma, but authorities will perform an autopsy to determine the cause of woman's death, it says.
The husband was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital for observation and treatment and is expected to survive, the Suffolk County DA's office said.
The incident happened on Massport property and will be investigated by the Suffolk County State Police Detective Unit with assistance from Massport and State police, according to the DA.
