Shooting Thursday Night Wounds One, Suspect at Large

Police are searching for the suspect in a Union Square shooting that occurred late Thursday night and left one victim wounded.

Police are searching for the suspect in a shooting that took place late Thursday night in Union Square near the intersection of Somerville Ave. and Washington St. near.

At approximately 11:20 p.m., a 29-year-old male was shot while outside on Washington St. He suffered a gunshot wound to the leg and was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, said Sgt. Neil Brennan of the Somerville Police Dept.

The suspect fled on foot and is still being sought by police at this time.

The shooting “does not appear to be random,” said Brennan.  “The suspect shot the victim following an argument. It is more than likely that the victim knew the shooter.”

Because the police investigation is ongoing, no additional details can be released at this time. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to please contact the Somerville Police Dept. at 617-625-1600.
