Sean Collier Will Posthumously Join Somerville Police Department Thursday

The MIT police officer was allegedly shot by suspects in the Boston Marathon bombings.

Somerville resident and MIT police officer Sean Collier, who was killed in the aftermath of the Boston Marathon bombings, will be sworn onto the Somerville Police Department, posthumously, Thursday.

A swearing-in ceremony will take place during the Somerville Board of Aldermen meeting at City Hall, according to an advisory from the city of Somerville.

Collier's family, Somerville Police Chief Thomas Pasquarello, Somerville Mayor Joseph Curtatone and state officials are expected to attend the ceremony.

Collier, who was a civilian member of the Somerville Police Department and a member of the Somerville Auxiliary Police, was working toward becoming a permanent officer in the department. He was expected to be sworn in during June.

The Somerville resident was serving as an MIT police officer on April 18 when he was allegedly shot to death by suspects in the Marathon bombings.

Thursday's Board of Aldermen meeting takes place at 7 p.m.
