Report: Witnesses Detain Boy Accused of Breaking Into Cars

The 15-year-old boy had a pair of brass knuckles, and two suspects he was with fled the scene, according to a police report.

Somerville police arrested a 15-year-old boy Sunday night after witnesses caught him breaking into a car on Cherry Street, according to allegations in a police report.

The report says the witnesses were walking down Cherry Street, sometime before 8:20 p.m., when they saw three people trying the door handles to cars and eventually getting into a car.

The witness shouted at the suspects that they were calling police, and two of the suspects fled toward Highland Avenue, leaving behind the 15-year-old boy, whom the witnesses apprehended near 10 Steeves Circle., according to the report.

When officers questioned the boy, he said he was visiting a friend in the area, but he didn't know what street he was on or what street his supposed friend lived on, the report says. The boy allegedly pointed toward Highland Avenue and said he had come from "just over there, Union Square." Officers pointed out Union Square was nowhere near.

The boy had a Canon digital camera, a mini iPod, a red headset and a pair of brass knuckles, the report say. It says he was unable to identify anyone in the photos and didn't know any of the songs on the iPod.

He was arrested and charged with breaking and entering into a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property and possession of a dangerous weapon.

Please remember that allegations contained in police reports do not indicate a conviction.
