Report: Man in 'Pum Pum' Shorts Exposes Himself

It wasn't the first time this man, wearing "extremely" short tennis shorts, had exposed himself to the same couple, according to a police report.

A 63-year-old Somerville resident wearing what one man called "pum pum" shorts was arrested and charged with open and gross lewdness, according to allegations in a Somerville police report.

It wasn't the shorts that got the man arrested, according to the report, but rather that "the man had his pants lowered down so his genitals were in plain view and [he] was resting his arms on his hips."

"Pum pum" shorts are incredibly short shorts. The term is derived from a somewhat adults-only slang word, according to Urban Dictionary, so use parental judgement before letting your kids click on the link.

The report says police responded to the area around 205 Beacon St. at approximately 11:30 p.m. Thursday to investigate a call about indecent exposure.

When they arrived, two victim's told police what they'd seen.

According to the report:

A woman said she was walking her dog past 199 Beacon St. when she noticed Jing Mei, of 94 Beacon St., standing on the steps. She recognized the man because he had exposed himself in the past, although on this occasion the woman didn't see Mei's genitals.

The woman ran home and told her husband about Mei. The husband went outside to confront the man, and when he got their Mei had his pants lowered.

The husband told Mei to pull his pants up, and Mei raised his pants and waved the husband off as if "he wasn't doing anything out of the ordinary."

Again, this is according to the police report. It continues:

The man told police Mei had exposed himself to them before and that he would urinate on the steps of 199 Beacon St. In the previous instances, he had fled before police arrived.

This time around, as the husband talked to Mei, the wife tried to take photos in order to identify the culprit, but the photos didn't turn out because it was dark.

Police tracked down Mei, and the husband was able to identify him, the report says.

The above information was supplied by the Somerville Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.
