A Medford man allegedly threw a bottle at the wrong car.

According to a Somerville Police report, an officer driving his personal car down Broadway near Ball Square at about 2:30 p.m. on Nov. 3 heard someone honking continuously at him.

The officer looked in his rearview mirror and saw a black Mercedes revving its engine and swerving in and out of traffic, into the opposite lane with heavy oncoming traffic, in an attempt to pass, the report says.

When the cars approached the Ball Square bridge, the driver of the Mercedes allegedly accelerated, threw a bottle out his driver's side window and then turned sharply down Winchester Street into Medford. The bottle hit the rear bumper of the officer's car, the report says.

The officer allegedly chased the Mercedes and stopped it near 20 Windsor Rd. in Medford.

According to the report, the officer drew his sidearm and ordered the driver of the Mercedes—Oliver Ayoub, 23, of 7 Alfred St., Medford—out of the car before handcuffing him.

The officer then asked Somerville dispatch to send Medford Police, and a bystander also called Medford Police, the report says.

Ayoub was arrested and charged with negligent operation of a motor vehicle, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and marked lanes violation.
