Report: Barbershop Kerfuffle Leads Cops to Stolen Bike

An unwanted, drunk, verbally belligerent customer at a Winter Hill barber shop led police to a stolen bicycle and possibly other stolen items, according to a Somerville police report.

Police responded to Wally's Barber Shop at about 2:37 p.m. on Feb. 21 for reports of a fight, according to the report.

When they got there, they found a "highly intoxicated" man who was being "very aggressive and insulting to the customers and employees of the barber shop," the report says. 

When police escorted the man out of the shop, he threatened to beat up and kill one of the officers, according to the report.

One of the witnesses told police the man, 49-year-old Edwin Vazquez, of 58 Mt. Vernon St., had walked into the shop, where he tried to sell a silver-colored Trek bicycle, the report says.

When no one in the shop wanted to buy the bicycle, Vazquez allegedly started insulting everyone. That started an argument, and the owner of Wally's called police, the report says.

One of the officers knew about a break-in that had occured the previous night on Lincoln Avenue in which a silver Trek bicycle had been stolen, according to the report.

Police went to the site of the break-in and met with the victim, who returned to Wally's and identified the bike as his.

The report indicates two laptops may also have been stolen.

Vazquez was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, threatening to commit crime and receiving stolen property.
