Porter Square Fire Accidental, Says Fire Marshal

A lighting fixture was to blame, according to reports.

A Tuesday morning fire at 19 and 17 Banks St., near Porter Square, was accidental and caused by an electrical malfunction, according to media reports.

The state's fire marshal determined Tuesday's fire started in a lighting fixture in the first-floor living room of 19 Banks St., Boston.com reported.

The fire is not considered suspicious.

However, the fire marshal's office is still working with the Somerville Fire Department and the Somerville Police Department to investigate a series of fires that occurred earlier this summer, BostonHerald.com reported.

Those fires are "potentially connected suspicious fires," the fire marshal's office said, according to the Herald.
