Police Booking Log: Woman Cashes False Checks Before Getting Caught

The following information was supplied by the Somerville Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Arrests made by the Somerville Police Department from Sept. 9 to Sept. 15. Please remember that the charges listed below do not indicate a conviction.

Assault and battery


On Sept. 11, Norma Sandoval, 33, of 9 Tufts St., was arrested at that address and charged with assault and battery.

On Sept. 11, Robert Amarantes, 51, of Boston, was arrested at 1374 Broadway and charged with attempted murder, trespassing and assault and battery. According to allegations in a police report, a woman with whom he had a child gave him her EBT card and asked him to withdraw money. But, according to the report, he never handed over the money, and this led to an argument and ultimately a physical confrontation, during which he allegedly struck and choked the woman.

On Sept. 12, Benedict Sparling-Sedlack, 29, of Scarborough, Maine, was arrested at 24 Washington Terrace and charged with attempted murder and assault and battery. He is accused of choking his girlfriend while saying, "You need to be cleansed!"

Larceny and theft


On Sept. 13, Deecatrina Kiser, 19, of Boston, was arrested at 40 Union Square and charged with check forgery, larceny and uttering a false instrument. According to a police report, Kiser was caught at Citizens Bank in Union Square trying to cash a check for $948, allegedly from an employer, that was deemed to be fake. The police report says she tried to do the same thing, with another fake check worth $948, at a Citizens Bank in Arlington. She was unsuccessful in Arlington, but managed to cash that check at the Davis Square branch, the report says. It also says she managed to cash checks worth $768 and $986 at three other branches.

On Sept. 13, Christian Velasquez-Palacios, 21, of Chelsea, was arrested at 70 River Rd. and charged with unarmed robbery and possession of a dangerous weapon. In connection to the same incident, Nelson Portillo, 22, of 90 River Rd., was arrested at 70 River Rd. and charged with resisting arrest and drug possession.

Drug-related arrests


On Sept. 11, Annemarie Decotis, 31, of Saugus, was arrested at 343 Broadway and charged with drug possession and shoplifting. She was also arrested on a warrant for sexual conduct for a fee. According to allegations in a police report, she was caught shoplifting $80.92 worth of merchandise at Walgreens, and police discovered she also had pills believed to be Clonazepam.

Operating under the influence


On Sept. 14, Fausto Aviles, 33, of 15 Prescott St., was arrested on Broadway and charged with operating under the influence of liquor.

Warrant arrests


On Sept. 9, Mario Correia, 60, of Dorchester, was arrested at 105 Puritan Rd. on a warrant for violating an abuse prevention order.

On Sept. 10, Henry Flores-Chavez, 23, of Chelsea, was arrested on Cross Street on a warrant for a miscellaneous statutory violation.

On Sept. 13, Cesar Perlata, 46, of 35 Marshall St., was arrested at 220 Washington St. on warrants for unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, driving an unregistered motor vehicle and driving an uninsured motor vehicle or trailer.

On Sept. 15, Jamal Escobar, 19, of 3 Snow Terrace, was arrested at 299 Broadway on a warrant for possession of a firearm without a firearm ID card.
