Police Booking Log: Man Confronts Burglar in Own Home

Arrests made by the Somerville Police Department from Jan. 7 to Jan. 11. Please remember that the charges listed below do not indicate a conviction.
Assault and battery
On Jan. 11, Joao Batista-Casimiro, 39, of 29 Derby St., was arrested at that address and charged with assault and battery.
Larceny and theft
On Jan. 19, Otto Mejicanos, 33, of 16 Kenwood St., was arrested at that address and charged with armed burglary and breaking and entering. According to a police report, a resident of 209 College Ave. came home at around 9:30 p.m. and, as he walked up the stairs to his apartment, heard someone was there. A man appeared from the victim's apartment and tried to walk down the stairs, the report says, adding he shoved the victim as he tried to go down the stairs, but the victim grabbed the suspect's clothes and tried to stop him. The suspect managed to leave the building, and the victim called police, the report says. When police arrived they found a stanger's backpack in the building, and inside the backpack was a DHL shipping label with the suspect's address on it. Police went to that address, 16 Kenwood St., and Mejicanos gave himself up, the report says.

Drug-related arrests
On Jan. 7, Jose Fuentes, 27, of 20 Otis St., was arrested at 85 Glen St. and charged with drug possession, drug violation near a school, failing to stop or yield and driving with a revoked license. According to a police report, Fuentes was pulled over for failing to stop at a stop sign. The report says Fuentes found him with six baggies of crack cocaine.
On Jan. 11, Victor Espada, 44, was arrested at 5 Meacham St. and charged with disorderly conduct and drug possession. Espada was accused of threatening students at the Healey School.

Driving without a license
On Jan. 7, Felipe Cersosimo, 29, of Cambridge, was arrested at 180 Somerville Ave. and charged with driving with a suspended license.
On Jan. 9, George Silva, 53, of Cambridge, was arrested at 273 Summer St. and charged with driving with a suspended license.
Other arrests
On Jan. 7, Alexis Gonzalez, 20, of Charlestown, Avis Medrano, 23, of Charlestown and a juvenile from Charlestown were arrested at 74 Gilman St. and charged with discharging a firearm, carrying a firearm without a license and having amunition without a firearm ID card. The three were accused of leading police on a chase through Somerville and Medford and bailing from their car in West Somerville, causing a brief helicopter-aided manhunt in that neighborhood. On Jan. 20, Patrick Farris, 21, of Charlestown, was arrested at 175 Fellsway in connection to the same incident. He was arrested on warrants for the same charges.
Warrant arrests
On Jan. 8, Moises Mejia, 22, of 34A North St., was arrested on North Street on warrants for drug distribution and drug possession.
On Jan. 9, Jonathan Norena, 21, of Chelsea, was arrested at 34 Sydney St. on warrants for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and assault and battery.
