Police Booking Log: Friends Fight on Route 16

The following arrest information was supplied by the Somerville Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Arrests made by the Somerville Police Department from March 18 to 24. Please remember that the charges listed below do not indicate a conviction.

Assault and battery

On March 20, Humberto Perez, 29, of Chicago Heights, Ill., was arrested on Capen Court and charged with assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. According to a police report, Perez was fighting with friends near the Gulf station on Route 16 at about 10 p.m., and he was rolling around on Route 16, stopping traffic. When officers tried to speak to him, he ran off down Capen Court into the elderly housing building, the report says. When police stopped him he pushed one of the officers and took a swing at him, according to the report, which says police used pepper spray to subdue him.

On March 21, Jason Duncan, 33, of 20 Central Rd., was arrested at that address and charged with assault and battery.

On March 23, John Mello, 49, of Waltham, was arrested at 17 Holland St. and charged with assault and battery, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.

On March 23, Jose Hernandez, 45, of 74 Wheatland St., was arrested at that address and charged with indecent assault and battery. To protect victims, the Somerville Police Department does not release information about indecent assaults unless there is a threat to the public. Hernandez was also arrested on a warrant for littering.

On March 24, Nicole Bairos, 29, of 113 Washington St., was arrested at that address and charged with resisting arrest, assault and battery on a police officer and disorderly conduct. According to a police report, Bariros, whose name is also spelled Barros in the report, was dropped off at Buddy's Diner by a cab but didn't pay the driver. The report says Bairos told an officer she was on probation and would look to see if she had the $13 fare, but she then asked the officer to to take her home in his cruiser. In the back of the cruiser she began to rumage around in the officer's duty bag and jacket, saying his belongings were her purse, the report says. It says she then got mad and started to throwing the officer's stuff around. The officer told her to exit the cruiser, and she then began screaming, kicking and swinging her arms at the officers, who struggled to put her in handcuffs, the report says. Once in handcuffs, she spat on the officers and continued screaming, and officers used pepper spray on her, according to the report.

Larceny, theft, breaking and entering

On March 19, Carlton Buscemi, 24, of 22 Wellington Ave, was arrested at 44 Boston St. and charged with breaking and entering and possession of burglarious instruments.

Drug-related arrests

On March 19, Daniel Melin, 40, of Cambridge, was arrested at 13 Wesley St. and charged with drug possession.

On March 20, Mebrathu Sisay, 27, of 5 Tower Court, was arrested at 147 Central St. and charged with conspiracy to violate drug law, drug possession and drug violation near a school. He was also arrested on a warrant for drug possession. During the same incident, David Kenny, 27, of 22 Montrose St., was arrested at 147 Central St. and charged with conspiracy to violate drug law, drug possession and drug violation near a school.

Operating under the influence

On March 23, Mark Johnston, 51, of 58 Hinkley St., was arrested on Central Street and charged with operating under the influence of liquor.

Driving without a license

On March 20, Michael Silva, 32, of Saugus, was arrested at 483 Broadway and charged with driving with a suspended license and giving a false name.

On March 24, Ralph Romelus, 26, of 10 Winter Hill Circle, was arrested at 180 Somerville Ave. and charged with driving with a suspended license.

On March 24, Michael Puleo, 27, of Lexington, was arrested on Mystic Avenue and charged with driving with a suspended license and speeding.

Other arrests

On March 24, Kirby Calixte, 20, of 66 Vernon St., Sean Manuel, 19, of Woburn and David Hatch-Bernier, 44, of 28 Highland Ave., were arrested at 74 Walnut St. and charged with engaging in a common law affray. According to a police report, the three, along with a forth man, got into a fight, at about 1:20 a.m., in the street. The fight seems to have broken out after a traffic dispute between Hatch-Bernier, who was driving a car, and Calixte and Manuel, who were pedestrians, according to the report.

Warrant arrests

On March 18, Jennifer Cheek, 37, of Medford, was arrested at 483 Broadway on warrants for breaking and entering and destruction of property.

On March 19, Vincent Distasio, 29, of Charlestown, was arrested on Pearl Street on warrants for driving with a suspended license, number plate violation, driving an unregistered motor vehicle and failure to signal.

On March 19, Zachary Waters, 29, of 13 Wesley St., was arrested at that address on warrants for credit card fraud, attempting to commit crime, conspiracy and uttering a false instrument (which usually means forging a document or check).

On March 20, Kensley David, 21, of Cambridge, was arrested at 220 Washington St. on a warrant for possessing liquor while under 21.

On March 21, Kolleen Benoit, 32, of Revere, was arrested at 532 Medford St. on a warrant for shoplifting.

On March 21, Gary Sylvain, 25, of Medford, was arrested at 540 Broadway on warrants for drug possession and carrying a dangerous weapon.

On March 22, Gevens Mayala, 23, of 14 Madison St., was arrested at 211 Pearl St. on warrants for drug possession, threatening to commit crime, larceny, assault with a dangerous weapon and assault and battery.
