Police Booking Log: Chicken Package Used as Tool in Purse Theft

The following information was supplied by the Somerville Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Arrests made by the Somerville Police Department from Aug. 5 to 11. Please remember that the charges listed below do not indicate a conviction.

Assault and battery


On Aug. 6, Ulrick Joseph, 35, of 34R North St., was arrested on North Street and charged with assault and battery.

On Aug. 6, Kyle Evans, 27, of 50 Washington St., was arrested on New Washington Street and charged with assault and battery, disturbing the peace and resisting arrest. He was also arrested on warrants for disorderly conduct, assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest, drug possession, larceny from a person and shoplifting.

Larceny, theft and shoplifting


On Aug. 5, Michael England, 30, of 81 Summer St., was arrested at 400 Somerville Ave. and charged with shoplifting.

On Aug. 11, Jacqueline Bowman, 47, of Hyde Park, was arrested at 400 Somerville Ave. and charged with larceny from a person. According to a police report, Bowman targeted a woman who was taking two chickens out of the "chicken kiosk" at Market Basket. The report says Bowman reached into the kiosk at the same time as the victim, grabbed a chicken package, and as she moved the chicken package toward her, using it as a shield, she took the victim's purse. The report says she took $69 from the purse then hid the purse behind a box of diapers in Aisle 1. The theft was captured on Market Basket's security cameras, the report says.

Breaking and entering


On Aug. 9, Jared Hiltz, 21, of Revere, was arrested at 460 Mystic Ave. and charged with breaking and entering and conspiracy. He was also arrested on a warrant for disorderly conduct. Hiltz is accused of kicking himself into Central Convenience on Mystic Avenue and taking bags of chips and cigarettes.

Other arrests


On Aug. 5. Michael Mauro, 49, of 88 Avon St., was arrested at 30 Linden Ave. and charged with violating an abuse prevention order.

On Aug. 6, a juvenile from Somerville was arrested at 9 Alston St. No charges or warrants are listed on the booking log supplied by the Somerville Police Department.

On Aug. 7, a juvenile from Somerville was arrested at 510 Mystic Ave. and charged with disorderly conduct.

On Aug. 8, Nelson Portillo, 22, of 90 River Rd., was arrested on Albion Street and charged with moped violations.

Warrant arrests


On Aug. 5, Normal Joncas, 21, of North Andover, was arrested at 709 McGrath Highway on warrants for assault and battery, drug possession, drug violation near a school, conspiracy to violate drug law, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, driving an unregistered vehicle, operating under the influence of liquor, driving with a suspended license, marked lanes violation and unlawful possession of fireworks.

On Aug. 5, Elvis Melay, 29, of Dorchester, was arrested on Bromfield Road on warrants for unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and failure to stop or yield.
