Man Who Allegedly Robbed Elderly Woman at Twin City Plaza Arrested

The robbery occurred Friday, July 4.

A man who allegedly robbed an elderly woman at Twin City Plaza in Somerville on Friday, July 4, has been taken into custody, according to Somerville Police.

Jarone McKinney, of Berkshire Street, Cambridge, was taken into custody Thursday by Boston Police and then formally arrested by Somerville Police. He was charged with one count of unarmed robbery.

McKinney was arraigned Friday in Somerville District Court and held on $5,000 cash bail.

He allegedly ripped money from the woman’s hands as she sat on a bench at the plaza counting her money. A surveillance photo of McKinney was then aired by local media.

“I commend our investigators for their diligent efforts to identify the person responsible for this crime,” acting Somerville Police Chief Charles Femino said in a statement, “and our thanks go out to the media that quickly put out a call for information and to the citizens who assisted in making this identification possible.”
