Man Accused of Touching Himself in Market Basket Parking Lot

The Cambridge man was allegedly sitting in his car and touching himself at about 3:30 p.m. Friday, when the parking lot was full.

It was a busy Friday afternoon in the parking lot when a woman, accompanied by her 19-year-old daughter and her daughter's friend, parked next to a blue 2003 Ford Taurus, according to an account in a Somerville police report.

Inside the Taurus, according to the woman's account in the police report, a 54-year-old Cambridge man was touching himself.

"I parked my car in the back of the parking lot with my 19 year old daughter and her 19 year old friend," the woman told police, according to the report. Her account continues: "As I exited the vehicle, I observed a man (parked next to her) with his hand on his [genitals]. I made eye contact with him for at least 5 seconds while he continued to touch himself."

The incident happened April 6 at about 3:30 p.m. When police arrived, the vehicle was trying to exit the parking lot, but police stopped it, the report says.

The man inside the vehicle "denied any wrong doing," the police report says.

Police arrested Maurice Reidy, 54, of Cambridge and charged him with lewdness and lewd, wanton and lascivious conduct.

Please remember that information from incident reports provided by the Somerville Police Department do not indicate a conviction.
