Live Blog: Memorial Service for Sean Collier

Patch will post up-to-the-minute updates from MIT as Officer Sean Collier is honored by the school community.

Sean Collier will be remembered at an MIT memorial service at noon on Wednesday. Collier, who was killed Thursday, was laid to rest on Tuesday morning. Police believe the Boston Marathon bombing suspects shot Collier as he responded to an unrelated robbery.

Patch will provide updates throughout the memorial service. We welcome you to add your condolences and memories of Sean in the chat above once the live chat begins.

Deb, Just as the majority of local news stations were broadcasting the memorial on live television, we wanted to provide readers the opportunity to follow the speakers online. There were over 15,000 people in attendance, but there were many others who wanted to pay their respects to Officer Collier and were unable to attend. This was also a way for people, whether they knew Officer Collier or not, to offer their condolences and messages of support. Matt

If this is done again, those who make comments should be asked to restrict them to messages appropriate for a guest book at a funeral or memorial service. My understanding is that Officer Collier was a kind, friendly, well-liked officer who served the MIT community with all of its political diversity. We honor his memory by writing comments in that same spirit. Thank you, Sean, for the sacrifice you made to protect the lives of others.

You couldn't put aside your own political hatred for one day? I feel sorry for you.

Didn't this happen in France 20 years ago?
