Heroin Investigation Leads to Arrests

One of the suspects hid heroin in a secret container, according to a police report.

Investigators with the Somerville, Cambridge and Medford police departments arrested a Cambridge man and a Dorchester man after the two allegedly conducted a heroin deal in East Somerville.

Police confiscated about 21.4 grams of heroin, which one of the suspects stored in his mouth and a container hidden in the rear wheel well of his car, according to a report from the Somerville Police Department.

The report says police were conducing an ongoing investigation into John O'Callaghan, 52, of 249 Hurley St., Cambridge, and Miguel Robles-Pacheco, 35, of 80 Evans St., Dorchester.

In July, O'Callaghan was arrested and accused of having 20 bags of heroin and more than $2,000 in cash, according to the Cambridge Chronicle.

On Nov. 1, the report says, police placed O'Callaghan under surveillance and, at about 11:50 a.m., they followed him to the intersection of Washington and Myrtle streets in Somerville.

It says Robles-Pacheco pulled up in a 2004 Ford Focus and O'Callaghan got into the car. Before he did, Robles-Pacheco got out of the car and reached for something in the rear wheel well, the report says.

Police followed the car onto Florence Street, where O'Callaghan got out and Robles-Pacheco reached into the rear wheel well again, according to the report.

Police moved in and stopped the car, but Robles-Pacheco tried to drive away, the report says.

It says the Dorchester man spit four glassine bags of heroin onto the pavement, and police found more bags in the hidden container in the wheel well.

O'Callaghan was charged with conspiracy to violate drug law and being present where heroin was kept.

Robles-Pacheco was charged with heroin trafficking, conspiracy to violate drug law, resisting arrest and perpetrating a drug violation near a playground.

The above information was supplied by the Somerville Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.
