Firefighters Respond to Midnight Fire in Magoun Square

There was "a good volume of fire," according to Somerville Fire Chief Kevin Kelleher.

Somerville firefighters doused flames that broke out between two houses in Magoun Square early Friday morning, according to Chief Kevin Kelleher of the Somerville Fire Department.

The fire broke out shortly after midnight at 482 Broadway, Kelleher said.

As some of the firefighters dispatched to the area fought the blaze, others searched inside the home after hearing reports that residents were trapped inside, though in fact all the residents had managed to escape, the fire chief said.

It was "an outside fire against the side of the buildings," Kelleher said, and even though the flames did not spread into the homes, there was "a good volume of fire," he said.

The Somerville Fire Department is still investigating the cause of the fire, he said.

The fire initially started at ground level, but some embers floated into the air and started burring the side of the building about 20 feet up, Kelleher said.

There were no injuries, and no one was displaced by the fire, he said.
