A dead body was pulled from under a Red Line train at Davis Square Station in Somerville Saturday morning, shutting down train service between Harvard and Alewife stations.

According to Kelly Smith, deputy press secretary for the MBTA, firefighters pulled the body from under the train sometime around 11 a.m.

Although Smith originally said Cambridge firefighters responded, Matt W, a Somerville firefighter contacting Somerville Patch on Twitter, said it was actually Somerville's Engine 6, Ladder 3, Rescue 1 and C-3 who responded.

The person was "deceased" when emergency responders arrived, Smith said.

Smith did not have any information about the identity of the deceased person.

Transit police were conducting an investigation, Smith said.

Bus shuttle service was replacing Red Line trains between Harvard and Alewife. Smith did not know when normal train service would resume, but Somerville Police announced on Twitter the station should re-open around 3 p.m.
