Child With Lighter Started New Year's Eve Fire in Somerville

The fire, that displaced four people, caused about $50,000 of damage, according to the Somerville Fire Department.

A Dec. 31, 2013, fire at 127 Cross St. that displaced four people was started by a child playing with a lighter, according to the Somerville Fire Department.

Deputy Chief Charles Breen, in an email, said most of the damage from the fire was contained to the second-floor bedroom, though smoke and water damage affected the entire two-family duplex.

He said the fire caused about $50,000 worth of damage.
