Cars Set Ablaze in Union Square Tuesday Morning

The car fires were likely an "isolated incident," according to Somerville's fire chief.

Two cars were intentionally set on fire in Union Square early Tuesday morning, according to Chief Kevin Kelleher of the Somerville Fire Department.

Kelleher said the cars were parked across from each other on Bow Street. One was in front of 60 Bow St., the other was near the corner of Bow Street and Bow Street Place.

They were "definitely intentionally set," the fire chief said.

He added, "This is an isolated incident" that doesn't seem to be connected to a string of fires, some confirmed as arson, that happened in Somerville over the summer.

Firefighters responded to the car fires at about 1:14 a.m. and quickly extinguished the blazes, Kelleher said.

There were no injuries, and the Somerville Fire Department and Somerville Police Department are conducting an investigation, he said.
