Car Takes Out Hydrant, Parking Meter in Davis Square

No one was injured in the Friday afternoon accident.

A car ran off the road on Meacham Road in Davis Square Friday afternoon, taking out a fire hydrant and a parking meter before coming to a stop.

No one was injured in the accident, according to Somerville Fire Department District Chief James King.

The accident occured at around 2 p.m., and by 2:30 p.m. a crew from the department of public works was on the scene to clean up the debris.

King said the fire hydrant "did what it was supposed to do, break off with no water." No geyser of water shot into the air or flooded the area.

Nor were there quarters spewn onto the sidewalk and street from the knocked-over parking meter. Perhaps that's because meters in Davis Square now accept credit cards.
