Cab Driver Hospitalized After Saturday Morning Beating

Three suspects robbed a Boston cab driver early Saturday morning in Winter Hill, according to Somerville police. Two suspects were arrested.

Three suspects robbed and beat a Boston taxi driver early Saturday morning, sending the 31-year-old driver to the hospital, according to a statement from the  and a police report.

The beating took place a little after 1:30 a.m. on Evergreen Avenue in Winter Hill, the statement says.

According to the police report, the cab driver picked up the three young men in the Government Center area of Boston. The driver told police that he drove the suspects to Evergreen Avenue, near the , where they told him to stop.

They got out of the cab and didn't pay, the driver told police. When he asked them to pay, one of the suspects came over to the driver's side door and began punching him, the report says.

Then, according to the report, another suspect dragged the driver from the car, and the three suspects punched and kicked him. They allegedly shouted, "Get him, get him" and "Kick him in the head," as they beat him, the report says.

According to the report, the victim tried to crawl away, but the suspects followed him and continued to beat him. At one point, one of the suspects got behind the wheel of the taxi and accelerated toward the prone driver, stopping 10 to 15 inches from him, the report says.

According to the report and statement, police quickly aprehended two of the suspects—Hamza Warsame, 18, of Revere, and Zachary Hultgreen, 19, of 455 Medford St., Somerville—not far from the incident. Both were scheduled to be arraigned in Monday morning.

According to the report, police found the victim's wallet on Warsame. They also found two cell phones and about $180 in cash that was allegedly stolen from the driver.

According to the police report, the driver was transported to Cambridge Hospital and later released.

Both Warsame and Hultgreen were charged with armed robbery and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. (A shod foot is considered a dangerous weapon.)

According to a police booking log, Warsame was also charged with assault to murder, and both Warsame and Hultgreen were charged with taxi fare evasion.

Police are still seeking the third suspect in the robbery, according to the statement.
