Four first responders helped to deliver a baby girl in the I-93 breakdown lane during Thursday morning’s rush hour.
Bedford firefighters responded to a call at about 8:30 a.m. Thursday for a woman in labor. Two firefighters and two Armstrong Ambulance paramedics then attempted to transport the woman to a Boston hospital, but the baby apparently didn’t feel like waiting.
The Bedford ambulance pulled over near the Sullivan Square exit on I-93 South, and the first responders delivered the baby right there.
Bedford firefighters Brian Oates and Michael Sargent were the ones on scene.
Mother and child were doing well, according to Bedford Fire Chief David Grunes.
In early May, Bedford firefighters delivered a baby girl at a Bonnievale Drive home.
