Somerville Resident to be Charged in Connection to Arlington and Waltham Bank Robberies

A 35-year-old Somerville man and a 30-year-old Arlington woman are accused of robbing two banks Tuesday afternoon.

Two individuals—one from Somerville—will be charged in connection to bank robberies that took place in Arlington and Waltham Tuesday afternoon, according to a state police press release.

Trooper Mark England arrested Andrea Koutis, a 30-year-old Arlington woman, and Erik Stout, 35, of Somerville, at 4:54 p.m. Tuesday after a short pursuit on Soldiers Field Road in Boston.

According to the press release, evidence indicates the two robbed the East Cambridge Savings Bank on Broadway, in Arlington, Tuesday afternoon at approximately 4:15 p.m. About 20 minutes later, according to the press release, they allegedly robbed the Sovereign Bank on Trapelo Road in Waltham.

In addition to facing bank robbery charges in Middlesex County, they will likely be arraigned in Brighton District Court Wednesday on charges of receiving a stolen motor vehicle and negligent operation of a motor vehicle, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney's office.

The FBI’s bank robbery task force, which includes state troopers, conducted the investigation into the robberies.

The two matched the description of the bank-robbery suspects given out by both Arlington and Waltham police, according to state police. They also had $7,000 in cash, police said.

England spotted the twosome in a 1998 Nissan Maxima after the Watertown Police Department sent out an alert for a stolen motor vehicle matching that description. After the short pursuit, he pulled the vehicle over at the intersection of Western Avenue and Telford Street, near the Skating Club of Boston, according to police.
