After ordering a small hot coffee and a donut at a Union Square , and paying with a $50 bill, a 35-year-old Boston man allegedly became so irate that he threw the hot coffee at his server, according to a police report.
The alleged coffee throwing took place Dec. 28 at about 7:45 p.m. at the Dunkin' Donuts at 282 Somerville Ave., at the intersection of Prospect Street.
According to the victim's account in the police report, the Boston man paid for his coffee and donut with a $50 bill, but when the server gave him change, he asked to exchange the $50 bill with a smaller bill.
The Dunkin' Donuts employee, a 23-year-old woman, said she'd given the man the right amount of change, but the man became irate, said he didn't want the coffee and donuts, and asked for a refund, the report says.
The victim told the man to come back the next day and speak with a manager, which prompted the man, according to the account, to say, "If you don't give me my money, I'm going to hop the counter and kick your ass."
The Dunkin' Donuts employee asked her coworker for assistance, at which point the man picked up his coffee and threw it at the woman's chest. The coffee also struck a coffee maker and wall menu.
Police arrived at the scene, and after hearing the story they put the alleged coffee thrower under arrest, charging him with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, threat to commit crime and defacing property.
The victim refused medical attention, according to the police report.
