30 Cops Needed to Break Up Rowdy Party

Two officers were sent to the hospital.

It took around 25 to 30 police officers from Boston, Medford, Cambridge, Somerville and the Massachusetts State Police to break up an out-of-control party in East Somerville early Sunday morning.

In the process of breaking up the party, two Somerville officers were injured and sent the hospital, and three Somerville residents, including the host of the party, were arrested, according to a police report.

The host, Dale Harding, 26, of 6 Myrtle St., has an arrest record related to shootings and, according to the police report, was on probation at the time of the party and forced to wear a GPS tracker.

Deputy Chief Michael Cabral of the Somerville Police Department said the party, at 6 Myrtle St., attracted a large crowd of partygoers, some of whom began to fight.

When officers tried to disperse the crowd, some of the partygoers "turned on officers," Cabral said.

According to the police report, officers first responded to the party at about 12:13 a.m. and found around 30 people in the back yard smoking and listening to loud music coming from the basement.

Officers told Harding if he wasn't able to control his guests, they would shut down the party, and Harding reluctantly asked his guests to move inside, the report says.

Then, at around 12:54 a.m., officers responded to the party again, this time for reports of a fight outside the home.

When they arrived, officers found about 25 people outside, and several of them were pushing and shoving each other, the report says.

Harding told officers he was trying to get the "troublemakers" out of the party, but another fight soon broke out inside the home, according to the report.

It says that when one officer entered the basement, he found around 40 to 50 people there, and they soon surrounded the officer.

While officers were attempting to break up the fight, a 20-year-old woman, Jamie Martis, of 96 Wheatland St., jumped on one of the officers and punched him in the face, according to the report.

The report says it took three officers and a burst of pepper spray to wrestle the kicking Martis into handcuffs. Two officers were injured in the altercation, it says.

She was charged with assault and battery on a police officer and resisting arrest.

Another partygoer, Joshua Foote, 22, of 23 MacArthur St., tried to block the officers' exit and wouldn't leave the driveway, and he was also arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, the report says.

According to the report, Harding ignored requests to send his guests away, and he was arrested and charged with keeping a disorderly house.

Harding had been arrested at least twice before. In October of 2012 he was accused of shooting at a minivan on Princeton Street. In 2008, he was arrested and charged with shooting an 18-year-old at a party in an dispute about gang colors.

Cabral said the two officers taken to the hospital did not suffer life-threatening injuries. They may miss some time at work, but not in the long term. "They'll be fine," he said.

The following information was supplied by the Somerville Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.
