Justice for Janitors Action at Tufts University
This Wednesday, April 23rd at noon, Tufts janitors, Tufts students, and the undergraduate student group Tufts Labor Coalition (TLC) will gather and march to university administrators’ offices to call attention to violations to the janitors' contract with the contracting company, DTZ/Unicco. DTZ has breached their contract by not giving enough of their employees full-time work and breaking with agreed payment methods. Tufts administration has thus far not taken action to ensure that these violations are addressed by their contractor. Many of the Tufts janitorial staff are residents of Somerville and surrounding cities. All those who would like to encourage Tufts University to ensure the fair treatment of workers from the surrounding community are welcome to join the march. We will meet at noon on the Upper Campus Center Patio (44 Professors Row, Somerville) and march from there to Ballou Hall, the administrative offices at the Tufts Medford campus.
Please contact Giovanna Castro, chair of TLC's janitor and dining hall worker committee, with any questions at giovanna.castro@tufts.edu.
