Obituary: Luigi Cavicchio, Longtime Somerville Resident

Cavicchio died Saturday, May 10. He was 95.

Luigi Cavicchio, a longtime Somerville resident, died peacefully in the company of his loving family on Saturday evening at the Aberjona Nursing Center. He was 95.

Born and raised in Gaeta, Italy, he came to the United States as a young man and settled in Somerville. He worked with New England Packing Company for many years, until his retirement. Luigi enjoyed the company of his family and friends, he loved to garden and grow vegetables. He was a hardworking man who provided well for his family.

The beloved husband of the late Elvira (Forcina), he was a devoted father to Maria Theresa Heinstrom of Stoneham, Mario Cavicchio of Wakefield, Damiano Cavicchio of New Hampshire, Pamela Cavicchio of Somerville and John Cavicchio of Malden. He is also lovingly survived by 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

His funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Wednesday, May 14, at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Ann Church, 399 Medford St., Somerville, at 10 a.m. Services will conclude with burial at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may visit at the funeral home on Tuesday 4-8 p.m.
