Obituary: Joseph Doherty, Retired Funeral Director
Doherty and his brother George ran the Doherty Funeral Home in Powder House Square, Somerville.

Joseph Turnbull Doherty, of Medford and Somerville, died Saturday, July 12, 2014.
Loving father of Dr. Jane Elizabeth Doherty of Carlisle and Mark Joseph Doherty of Ellicott City, Maryland. Brother of the late Elizabeth (Doherty) Breen and George L. Doherty Jr. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Joe worked alongside his brother George as a licensed funeral director from 1963 until his retirement. Before entering the family business, Joe was in the U.S. Navy during WWII and the U.S. Air Force until his military retirement in 1962.
A funeral home service will be held for Joe, in the George L. Doherty Funeral Home, 855 Broadway, Powder House Square, Somerville, Thursday morning at 10. Relatives and friends invited. Calling hours Wednesday, 4-7 p.m. Interment Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
At Joe's request, please omit flowers, dish gardens or plants for the family; a donation to the charity of your choice is accepted.
