Obituary: David Murphy Jr., Avid Baseball Player

David L. Murphy Jr., 62, died Sunday, March 2, at Mass General Hospital after a lengthy illness.

He was born in Somerville on Jan. 3, 1952 and resided again in Somerville at the time of his death. David was a graduate of St. Mary’s high school in Cambridge and Northeastern University. He was retired from the IRS.

David was an avid baseball player. He played for the Elm Club in Somerville. He was a former member of the Dante Club.

David is survived by his loving parents David L. and Margaret A. (Travalini) Murphy of Wells, Maine. Brother of Cheryl Brussard and her husband George of Plympton and the late John F. Murphy. Loving Uncle of Eric Brussard, Janine Fleury and her husband Peter and Katelyn Murphy. Nephew of Catherine Zaremba of Watertown, Richard Murphy of Ocala, Fla., and George Murphy of New Hampshire.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
