Madeline Spirito, Somerville Native, Dies at 90

Madeline A. (Casali) Spirito, of Woburn, formerly of Medford, died peacefully at the Aberjona Nursing Center. She was 90.

Mrs. Spirito was born and raised in Somerville, the daughter of the late John and Colomba (Zani) Casali. Madeline lived in Medford for most of her life until recently moving to Woburn. For many years, she worked as a secretary at the Alles Corporation in Cambridge and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW Post 1012 in Medford. Madeline was devoted to her family and especially enjoyed the company of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The beloved wife of Michael R. Spirito, Madeline was a devoted mother to Carolyn Zaya of Wilmington, Michael D. Spirito and his wife Joyce of Canton and is also lovingly survived by six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. The dear sister of Helen Solaroli of Agawam and the late Mary Kelly, John and Joseph Casali, She also leaves many nieces and nephews.

Her funeral will be from the McLaughlin-Dello Russo Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St., Woburn, Saturday, Feb. 15, at 9:30 a.m. followed by a funeral mass celebrated in the Immaculate Conception Church, 600 Pleasant St., Malden, at 10:30 a.m. Services will conclude with burial at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may visit at the funeral home on Friday, 4-8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent in Madeline’s name to St. Jude Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
