Where to Eat New Year's Day Brunch

Sunday brunch in Somerville will be particularly festive this week.

Still looking for somewhere to eat a late morning meal New Year's Day to soak up the extravagance of the night before? 

Many of the restaurants that are having a brunch are also throwing a . 

Foundry on Elm

The menu includes French beignets, a caesar salad, eggs benedict and a roasted mushroom sandwich. Brunch is served between 10:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

The diner isn't serving any New Year's Day specials, but it's still one of the most popular places to go for breakfast in the city. The menu, served from 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., includes Belgian waffles, homemade muffins and scones, several types of eggs benedict and omlettes, as well as other dishes.

Johnny D's Uptown Restaurant

There will be a brunch of eggs, pancakes, fried catfish and more from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. with live jazz music.

Highland Kitchen

The Southern Sunday brunch will go from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The menu will include hushpuppies, deviled eggs, shrimp and grits and biscuits with sausage gravy. There will also be live country and bluegrass music. Reservations are available for parties of six or more.

If abundance is the tone you want to set for the New Year, start off with a first meal at this Union Square breakfast spot known for its legendary large portions. From 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., they'll have the usual heaping plates of eggs n' such and Portuguese breakfast treats (like chorizo with your eggs?), as well as well as weekend specials to choose from.
